Conditions for joining the program
Program gives a chance to have babies in families in which husband’s spermatogenesis is completely lost. By law, a single healthy woman of reproductive age can also use donor sperm. In addition, sperm donor can be used by families in which husbands have a high risk of passing on hereditary diseases to their offspring. A young man aged 18-35 years, without bad habits, preferably with children, citizen of the Russian Federation can become a sperm donor in Embrylife Clinic. A contract is concluded between a sperm donor and the Clinic, according to which a sperm donor has to abide a certain way of life and is responsible for consequences of a breach of contractual obligations.
To become a sperm donor, it is necessary to het a special medical examination which takes about2 weeks (maximum 1 month and is carried out in our Center for free. For joining the donor program it is necessary to make an appointment to fill in documents and primary sperm analysis.
Preparation
Before donating sperm you need to refrain for 3-5 days from:
- Sexual intercourse as well as masturbation;
- Various thermal discharges on a body (bath, sauna, hot tub);
- Severe physical and psychological stress;
- Drinking strong alcohol and abuse smoking are not recommended;
- To limit intake of drugs which have an effect on spermatogenesis.
A donor mustn’t donate sperm in case of poor general physical state (e.g., ARVI etc.) during the entire participation in the donor program.
Sperm is obtained by masturbation. The procedure is carried out in a special laboratory which has all the necessary conditions for this. Ejaculate is collected in a sterile labelled container. The container is handed over to an embryologist by a donor personally through a window which joins together the sperm donation room and the laboratory. During the handover a donor must identify himself using passport.
Requirements for donor sperm
- Ejaculate volume is more than 1 ml;
- Sperm concentration in 1 ml of ejaculate is more than 800 million;
- Rate of progressively-mobile forms (A+B) is more than 60%;
- Rate of morphologically normal forms is more than 60%;
- Cryotolerancy (Sperm survival after thawing is more than 50%)
If sperm parameters meet the requirements, donor candidate is invited to an appointment with an urologist-andrologist. Uppon successful interview wit the doctor, he is sent for analysis and material obtainment. Medical examination for sperm donors (according to the order of the Ministry of Health No. 107n) includes:
- Microscopic study of sperm
- Study of material from an urethra: microscopic for gonococcus; molecular biology study for cytomegalovirus; microbiological study for chlamydia, mycoplasma and ureaplasma
- Appointment (examination, consultation) with a urologist
- Antibody test for Treponema pallidum in blood
- Determination of herpes simplex virus antigens in blood
- Determination of antibody class M, G (IgM, IgG) to the human immunodeficiency virus HIV-1 and HIV-2
- Determination of antibody class M, G (IgM, IgG) to antigen of viral hepatitis B
- Determination of antibody class M, G (IgM, IgG) to antigen of viral hepatitis С
- Blood test for blood group, Rh factor
- Appointment (examination, consultation) with a physician
- Psychiatric report ( to bring one with yourself)
- Medical and genetical examination (conclusion form a geneticist)
Only after passing all the necessary analysis and receiving required results you can become a donor.
Due to the fact that such viral disease as AIDS and hepatitis can be transmitted with semen, donor sperm can be used only after the end of a quarantine period. The quarantine period lasts 6 months, that is how much time passes since infection until appearance of infectious markers in blood. It means that 6 months after joining the donor program one must be examined and if only, he is healthy the donor’s sperm can be used for ART procedures. That’s why all the donor sperm is frozen and is stored in a sperm bank this entire period. The clinic reserves the right to refuse a donor candidate without explanation.
Regular donorship and reward
In case if all the test results are satisfactory, a donor candidate becomes a regular sperm donor and donates sperm to the bank for a fee.
Regular donor fee is 3000 rubles per 1 donation
Moreover, 900 rubles are immediately paid to a donor after each donation, the remaining 2100 rubles are paid after getting positive results of the interim examination (no infection etc.) after 6 months
A donor can donate sperm up to 4-6 times per months upon the Clinic invitation.v
Legal aspects
Start of participation in the donor program is the day of signing an agreement with the Clinic and reviewing the program. By concluding an agreement with the Clinic, a sperm donor agrees and undertakes to pass all the necessary examinations in time, comply with the lifestyle requirements given above. The Clinics takes care of payment of all the necessary examinations and donor's reward in accordance with the scheme described above.
For regular donors only anonymous sperm donorship is possible, which means that a donor and a married couple who will use the sperm (recipients) cannot know each other. Donor’s personal data, that specialists of the Clinic have, are the subject of medical secrecy. The possibility of giving them out to recipients or other unauthorized people is completely excluded.
Patients who plan to use donor sperm get just a descriptive portrait of a donor: age, nationality, height, weight, hair color, eye color, facial shape, forehead shape, nose shape, blood type. Starting treatment with the use of donor sperm, patients also sign an agreement in which they agree and undertake rights to support and upbring a unborn child and not to make attempts to identify a donor.
